“Surprising Translations”: Dialogues on Literary Translation from Romania and Moldova into German

25 June 2026

The Iași International Festival of Literature and Translation FILIT (Romania), together with several cultural institutions in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, is organizing a series of conversations with experienced translators of Romanian and Moldovan literature into German.

Five interviews in German are scheduled for the second half of 2026:

30 June 2026:
Georg Aescht and Ingrid Baltag

8 September 2026:
Jan Koneffke and Enikő Dácz

13 October 2026:
Yves Raeber and Cécile Vilas

10 November 2026:
Ernest Wichner and Katharina Biegger

1 December 2026:
Manuela Klenke and Gundel Große

All discussions are schedule from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (EET).
The hosts of these conversations—themselves experienced mediators or cultural managers—will invite the translators to discuss their work and its impact in the German-speaking world.

Moreover, with an eye toward the 2028 Frankfurt Book Fair—where Romania will be the guest of honor—the series of dialogues aims to draw attention to translations already available as well as to works that deserve to be translated.
