Accommodation
Your accommodation during the Fellowship is covered by NEC and you will be hosted in a studio apartment with en-suite bathroom; you might have to share the kitchen and the laundry room with other Fellows, though.
Age limit
No, there isn’t.
Application
In October.
Whichever you are the most familiar with – whether MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.
Feedback
It is NEC’s policy not to provide personalised feedback for any individual Fellowship project, whether or not your application was successful.
Health insurance
No, it does not. The health insurance valid throughout the fellowship is the sole responsibility of the Fellow, and it is compulsory.
Institutional affiliation
No, that is not an eligibility criterion. Independent scholars are also welcome to apply.
Interview
Yes, you are. However, we advise applicants to use the 5 minutes to give a live verbal presentation and build rapport with the panel.
It is 20 minutes long: the applicant will present her/his project for 5 minutes, and the remaining 15 minutes will be reserved for questions and answers. (NB: by the time of the interview all the examiners will have read your application file and will have familiarised themselves with your project proposal.)
In the language in which the application was written. Occasionally, you might be asked questions in one of the languages you mentioned you master.

Partners
Yes, that is possible.
The apartment provided by NEC for a Fellow can usually accommodate a couple, too. However, please be aware that the apartment’s maintenance costs for the additional guest must be covered by the Fellow.
PhD diploma
Yes, provided that you include evidence (e.g. from your university) that you have successfully defended your thesis and you are therefore to be awarded the PhD degree.
Reapplying
Yes, you can.
Yes, you can. However, please be aware that priority will be given to candidates who have not received NEC funding before.
