The project seeks to explore representations of Ukrainian history marked by the World Wars, the Famine, oppression, exile, (e/im)migration, the Chornobyl disaster in the oeuvre of American and Canadian authors of Ukrainian descent. Through the lens of ethnic/Ukrainian diaspora studies and memory studies, the research investigates literary ramifications of national and family histories, ethnicity and hyphenated (Ukrainian American/Canadian) identities, language (as collective frame of memory).
