Research Project

The Romanian Corporatist Experiment at the Dawn of the Twentieth Century and the Rise of Working-Class Nationalism

This project explores Romania’s early corporatist movement (1900–1916), established by the 1902 Missir Law, which created corporations as an alternative to trade unions. Ignored by communist and post-1989 historiography, this experiment blended worker-employer cooperation with nationalist rhetoric. Focusing on Bucharest and using archival, press, and statistical sources the study examines the interplay of class, nationalism, and state intervention.
