This project examines how social origin and occupational structures have shaped Romanian literary production from the nineteenth century to the present. Moving beyond aesthetic and canon-centered histories, it analyzes writers’ parental backgrounds, non-literary professions, and gendered access to cultural labor. Using distant reading and macroanalysis on a dataset of 3,600 authors, it reconstructs the social conditions underpinning literary careers, genres, and symbolic recognition.
