This project revises my doctoral thesis into a book manuscript on Romani musical life in twentieth-century Romania. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork and archival research, the book examines how Romani musicians used performance to transmit knowledge and enact subtle resistance within regimes of censorship and control. During the fellowship year, I will create a press-ready book proposal, two revised sample chapters, and make substantial progress toward a completed manuscript.
