Translating Serhiy Lazo’s Цвяхи [Nails] from Ukrainian into Bulgarian (2026/2027)
The book includes poems written over the last ten years. It is intimate, philosophical poetry from the pre-war years and a stunning perception of the world after the start of Russian aggression. The poet’s words are symbolically associated with nails that pierce the thick skin of human everyday life and touch the very heart. How can one love on the front lines and under fire, when even in cities behind the line of fire, alarms are blaring and people are dying… Lyrics of struggle for one’s future, a universal humanistic belief in the victory of good over evil.
Nails is a talented, metaphorical lyric, already noted by critics and scholars. In terms of content, the book is a premonition of war and, in fact, an image of war itself. It is important that this is heard in Bulgaria, because no one in Europe can stand aside from terrible events in Ukraine.
