Research Project

Western Sources of Kyiv-Mohyla Philosophy in the First Half of the 17th Century

This project aims to study two surviving Kyiv-Mohyla philosophical courses from the first half of the 17th century: Yosyf Kononovych-Horbatskyi’s (1639–40 acad. year) and Inokentii Gizel’s (1645–47 acad. years). These two texts are the earliest preserved philosophical courses taught at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The project will establish which Western philosophical traditions are represented in the two texts, and how the Kyivan professors understood and accepted these ideas.
