This project develops a historically grounded account of explanatory pluralism through the notion of constraint regimes. Focusing on Newton and early modern European science, it shows how multiple explanatory approaches were coordinated without reduction. These historical insights are then used to illuminate contemporary debates on explanation, models, and complexity across the sciences.
