Research project: Translating Theodora Dimova’s novel "Adriana" from Bulgarian into Romanian

As a student at the University of Bucharest I read and studied with much interest Dimitar Dimov’s novels (“Tobacco”,” Doomed Souls” and “Lieutenant Benz”). Years later I discovered in Dimov’s daughter, Teodora Dimova, a famous contemporary writer that not only continued the tradition of her family, but also enriched the Bulgarian literature with her plays, novels and essays. The novel “Adriana” piqued my interest, as it has as starting point Dimitar Dimov’s last unfinished book, “Untitled Novel”. To me it represents a bridge between generations and a declaration of love. When I heard about the project of an „Anthology of contemporary Bulgarian literature”, which will be released at Bucharest University Press, under the coordination of associate professor Cătălina Puiu, I knew that this novel was going to be an asset for the project, as both the author and the book play an important role for the contemporary Bulgarian literature. That’s the reason I decided to translate a fragment from “Adriana” for the Anthology. One of my biggest wishes as a translator is to meet Teodora Dimova in person, but I have never dreamt of thinking how it would be to work aside. I think that our collaboration will contribute to the quality of the resulting translation.
