From Women's NGOs to Digitally Connected Women: The Transition from Sporadic to Broad-Based Networked Feminism Amidst Democratic Backsliding in Illiberal Hungary
My project focuses on the sudden rise of Hungarian-language online platforms during the 2010s, where women’s issues, previously marginalised by the mass media – like domestic abuse – could be freely and publicly discussed with the participation of a large number of ordinary citizens, and thereby achieve significant social visibility. I investigate, through CDA and interviews, the impacts of these online platforms on Hungarian women’s activism and on the current Hungarian illiberal regime.
