Research project: The ‘Self-Limiting’ Revolution in Poland in the 80s: A Turning Point for the Romanian Communist Regime

This project investigates the impact of Poland’s ‘Self-Limiting’ Revolution on the regime in Bucharest on two levels: political actions and structural. Given that the events in Poland were a result of the global crisis, not just a local one – the foreign debt crisis and the outbreak of the Second Cold War – I start from the hypothesis that the Romanian regime perceived the Polish ‘Self-Limiting’ Revolution as a threat to its own interests.
