This project examines Romanian science fiction cinema during the Cold War through a selected corpus spanning the 1960s to the late 1980s. Combining film analysis and archival research, it traces a trajectory from nuclear anxiety and ethical allegory to the eclipse of the genre in the 1970s and its re-emergence in animated and late-socialist films, characterised by shifting attitudes towards technological power, situating Romania as a critical site for analysis within the socialist bloc.
