My research proposal aims to trace and reveal the forms of censorship and control in Byzantine musicology during the communist regime, based on documents found in the archives of the Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists. On investigating the phenomenon, I will seek to capture the manner in which the domain was forced to adhere to the cultural directions prescribed by the Party and to advocate for the mainstreaming themes, such as nationalism, exceptionalism and bimillennialism.
