Research project: Minority Status and Identity: A Case Study of Jewish-Christian Relations in Early Byzantium

The proposed interdisciplinary research project aims to investigate the social and economic relations in the Byzantine empire that influenced the structure of the communal life of the Jewish minority and the identity of its members. It is proposed to begin in the fourth century and end in the eighth century and will study the areas of the Balkans and the Aegean. This will allow the inclusion of the widest possible selection of epigraphical, literary and archaeological sources.
