This project analyzes the contentious encounters of Latins and Greeks in Jerusalem, between 1099 and 1517. In the Holy City, the two communities lived together and shared the sacred spaces, such as at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. However, the proximity appears to have deepened the rifts between the two branches of Christianity. With this project, I propose to examine the so-called ‘lists of errors’ produced by Latins, in which they vituperated against Greek practices and theological tenets that they deemed heterodox.
