The project explores the immersion of foreign female teachers into the local structures and communities from Wallachia, a principality in the southeastern part of presentday Romania. As transnational intercultural educators they shaped and influenced the Romanian educational system for girls. The project engages with the professional relationship that these teachers had with the Romanian state and the strategies they employed to survive on the labour market and to attract more pupils.
