Research project: The Perpetrators' Testimonies: The case of Alexandru Draghici and His Associates

Although the communist repression is one of the main themes approached by the Romanian historians after 1989, the subject was investigated only on the basis of the documents produced by the institutions involved in the communist repression and the victims’ memoires, without taking into consideration the perpetrators’ testimonies. This project is designed to investigate the subject through the analysis of the narratives of the political violence produced by Alexandru Draghici and his associates in April 1968 and in the next months, after the minister of Internal Affairs was removed from all his positions. The aim of this project is to analyze the representations and justifications of the violence described by the perpetrators with their own words. This project is based on an empirical research of the sources produced by the perpetrators during the communist regime and uses as main methodologies the phenomenological research of the perpetrators’ testimonies and the biographical method.
